Because I love Japan, it was a very rewarding experience for me.
Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?
Even though it was a short program, I liked how the school had several activities and events happening. My favorite was the Yamanashi trip, as I really love adventure.
What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?
Aside from the 100% Japanese classes themselves, I really enjoyed the cultural experiences (such as the tea ceremony). I ventured out a lot on my own, met many people, and have grown a lot because of it. Because I love Japan, it was a very rewarding experience for me (since I wish to work here some day). I don't think anything was boring.
What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?
For me, I learn best through the textbooks and pair work (or practice with Japanese people). Sometimes, due to my lack of vocabulary, I can feel lost, even though the teachers are amazing. Hands-on practice helps me a lot (with a supporting English book).
Any further thoughts or tips for those considering the program or new KCP students?
For those considering--do it! It's a really rewarding experience. It can be very difficult at times (most of the Americans I talked to felt they should be in a lower level), but you'll get used to it and really grow as a person. The teachers are amazing, but be prepared for a lot of work.
Any other comments or suggestions?
I had a great time at KCP, even though I struggled often. My weaknesses are still weaknesses but I've gotten much better and intend to continue to learn and practice on my own. Thanks for the opportunity, and I hope everyone the best!
