Study hard and try to make the most of your time in Japan!

Krista from Winter 2025

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

Daily class was the most valuable to me as I learned so much more than I could ever on my own or back in my home country.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

The most productive thing was the full immersion of speaking mostly Japanese. It definitely skyrocketed the amount of progress I took in learning the language.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

I think the drill practices in class were very useful, such as teaching us a concept and then asking us to use it in conversation with the teacher or to fellow classmates.

Any suggestions for improving class activities or materials?

I think it would be nice to have more opportunities to make practice partners more diverse, although I understand it may be difficult due to time constraints.

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

I definitely appreciate being able to understand the context between the language and Japan’s culture. For me, I am able to better able to retain concepts if I understand how they came to be, and I was able to make the connections through the culture classes.

Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?

Testimonials

I selected this program because I saw a favorable review for it in my Japanese club’s newsletter, and I had been looking for a study abroad in Tokyo. I also liked how inexpensive the program was and how the offered dormitories, which few other programs did.
