All of the teachers' explanations for the kanji, vocabulary, and grammar were very thorough.

Which events or activities did you find the most satisfying and why?

The school bus trip to Hakone was super fun and interesting, and the drama club's Romeo & Juliet play for the graduation ceremony was thoroughly entertaining.

What were the most productive and interesting aspects of the program for you? The least interesting and productive?

All of the teachers' explanations for the kanji, vocabulary, and grammar were very thorough, and if there was any question you had they would make sure to explain it until you understood.

What activities or materials did you find most helpful (e.g., pair work, drill practice, tests, small group sessions, textbooks, games)?

Pair work was very nice. It was a good way to both practice your own speaking ability and get to know the experiences of classmates from other countries. As well as I quite enjoyed the activity where we'd look up words from the kanji practice book on our own, ask questions about them in class, and other students would answer those questions in Japanese. It really made me think more in depth about the words I was using.

What did you find most valuable in the Culture Course?

The various trips to see different places in person were very fun and exciting.

Anything you especially liked in the living arrangements? Any problems you experienced?

Not Having a roommate was very nice, and the set up for garbage disposal was very helpful for someone sorting it for the first time.

What dorm did you live in or host family did you live with?

Ikebukuro Dorm

Any comments or tips for prospective/new KCP students?

Don't let the fast pace intimidate you. As long as you keep trying, your Japanese abilities will improve faster than you thought possible.

Testimonials

I loved meeting new people in my classes and being able to practice Japanese almost every day. I loved living in Japan as if I were Japanese and absorbing the culture.
