Tokyo Roastery

Japan Travelogue Series: Starbucks Reserve’s Tokyo Roastery

The coffee culture in Japan has evolved through the needs of the people over the course of history. Coffee shops in the country nowadays serve a niche within the thriving Japanese urban culture. Coffee was introduced to Japan during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries by the Dutch and Portuguese traders. It quickly gained popularity at the turn of the twentieth century.

In recent years, Japan has become one of the largest importers of coffee in the world. Coffee is thought to support the social aspects of the Japanese people as well as influencing the country’s economy through its importation of the product and the mass consumption of it.

Starbucks Reserve's Tokyo RoasteryStarbucks Reserve is a program by the international coffeehouse chain Starbucks where it operates worldwide roasteries. Part of the program includes coffee bars that prepare Starbucks Reserve products that are considered the rarest and best-quality coffees, usually single-origin coffees.

Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo is a tribute to Japan’s deep cultural appreciation of craft and innovation. The coffee bar is located in the trendy Nakameguro neighborhood well-known for its food, art, and design. The area is also famous for the cherry blossoms along the Meguro River that winds through the neighborhood, attracting numerous visitors all year round. The Tokyo Roastery is another must see destination in the area.
