Japan Travelogue Series: Sports Centers
If walking around the city isn’t enough exercise for you, sports centers or municipal sports facilities are a great way to get your ticker pumping double time and sticking to your budget as well. Most local authorities operate public sports facilities or training gyms with reasonable prices per visit. These facilities are clean and offer a variety of options for staying in shape. From the usual free weights, exercising machines like treadmills, stationary bicycles and the like, to a swimming pool, a basketball court and other traditional martial arts like judo or kendo, you name it!
The best way to find an athletic facility is to ask the student coordinators or, if you’re in a homestay and want something near home, your host family. Be sure to ask about student discounts.
